ACLU-WA is seeking a full-time Campaign Organizer. The Campaign Organizer plays a key role in building collective political power to advance shared policy and advocacy goals alongside communities disproportionately impacted by systemic oppression. This role actively cultivates trusted relationships with community partners, grassroots leaders, and activists, and strengthens collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders. The Campaign Organizer helps design, coordinate, and implement strategic organizing initiatives that elevate community priorities and drive meaningful, lasting change.
Each Campaign Organizer at the ACLU-WA focuses on a specific issue portfolio. This Campaign Organizer position will focus on our work to protect privacy, limit surveillance technology, and advance personal autonomy and civil rights, particularly in the digital age. Recent campaigns include efforts to limit the use of harmful surveillance tools, curtail widespread collection and sharing of personal data by governments, and protect LGBTQIA2S+ youth privacy.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement organizing workplans to execute organizing strategies that will advance the ACLU-WA’s intermediate and long-term policy goals that may include but are not limited to passing priority legislation, ballot measure campaigns, and public education and engagement on ACLU-WA issues.
- Cultivate trusted relationships with ACLU-WA activists and community partners, including those representing and led by directly impacted people.
- Collaborate with the Organizing Director, Policy Advocacy, Legislative Affairs, Legal, and Communications staff to deepen the ACLU-WA’s relationships with our activists and support effective execution of the organizing plans.
- Represent the ACLU-WA externally in coalition meetings and other organizing spaces. Share information about the ACLU-WA’s positions on issues, goals, and strategies with accuracy. Listen and learn about activists’, community partners’, and justice-involved communities’ priorities and positions and communicate that information to other staff in the ACLU-WA.
- Organize or participate in public events (i.e., town halls, rallies, community education forums, or protests) when strategically necessary to recruit and mobilize coalition partners or show support for partner events to help advance shared goals.
- Develop, facilitate, or participate in, as assigned, coalitions convened to advance our campaign goals.
- In collaboration with other advocacy staff, seek the input of organizations led by and/or centering the voices of directly impacted individuals and communities to help shape ACLU-WA’s priorities, strategies, and tactics.
- Recruit, educate, and mobilize coalition partners to broaden and deepen base of support for political and policy goals, facilitate coalition meetings for collective strategy development, support activists and community partners engaging in activities to influence decision makers.
- Serve as a key point of contact for coalition partners, particularly partners who represent individuals directly impacted by the designated issue area.
- Work with activists and community partners to build alignment around shared goals, identify areas of disagreement, and with the support of the Organizing Director and other ACLU-WA staff, engage with coalition partners to redress conflict.
- Shepherd coalition partners’ engagement in developing and executing pivots in tactics (in response to changing circumstances and often under significant time pressure) to accomplish longer term strategy.
- Help build ACLU-WA activists’ and community partners’ organizing skills and capacity; share ACLU-WA information and tools, model their use, and provide mentorship as appropriate and welcomed.
- Identify opportunities to help build activists’ and community partners’ leadership and political power.
- Work closely with colleagues across the office to support the development, coordination, and implementation of effective strategies, tactics, and messages to advance ACLU-WA goals.
- Facilitate internal meetings as assigned, including small-team collaborations around strategic planning.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.
- At least two (2) years of experience organizing individuals and organizations to collaborate in advancing a shared political.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, grounded in emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated success bringing people with diverse perspectives together around common priorities and cultivating genuine, trust-based relationships with communities historically marginalized by systems of oppression.
- Experience supporting, coordinating, and motivating individuals and coalitions to advance timebound political or advocacy objectives, including recruiting new activists and partners, nurturing relationships, identifying and uplifting leaders, advising community partners, navigating shifts in strategy, engaging in generative conflict, and co-creating approaches to repair and accountability.
- Demonstrated commitment to self-reflection and a growth mindset, including seeking, receiving, and integrating constructive feedback.
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills paired with deep, authentic listening.
- Experience presenting complex issues to a range of audiences and learning new issue areas with curiosity and agility.
- A track record of collaborating effectively with lawyers, policy advocates, lobbyists, organizers, ACLU-WA activists, and partners across varied identities, lived experiences, and political perspectives.
- Strong group facilitation skills.
- Experience maintaining clarity and organization in a fast-paced environment, coordinating multiple projects, adapting to shifting priorities, and responding to evolving needs.
- Experience engaging in courageous and accountable conversations with colleagues and community partners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfort learning and using new technologies.
- Understanding of civil liberties and civil rights issues.
- Experience working independently and collaboratively; takes initiative while also welcoming guidance and partnership.
- Demonstrated comfort engaging in candid, thoughtful conversations about equity, privilege, and allyship with communities impacted by systemic oppression.

LOCATION: Seattle, Washington

MENTAL DEMAND: Decision-making, high emotional intelligence, giving and receiving feedback and building trusting relationships. The nature of this work can be emotionally demanding and requires thoughtful and clear communication and resilience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS: The ACLU-WA observes a hybrid workstyle, with some staff working primarily remotely while others work in the office several days a week. The position requires maintaining some physical file records and word processing and is expected to observe an in-person hybrid workstyle.
Our office is generally open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and is located in downtown Seattle. The physical demands and work environment described below represent those required and encountered by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job. The salary for this position is $88,000.00 – $108,000.00. A range indicates the intention to accommodate those with varying years of relevant experience, as determined by the salary scale.
BENEFITS: Generous benefits include three weeks of vacation, twenty-three sick days given in 2026, twelve paid holidays and two weeks of paid office closure. ACLU-WA provides laptops, home office supplies, certain equipment, and technology support. You will need an effective Wi-Fi connection and a way to communicate by phone. This position is eligible for a work phone, as well as an additional $150 stipend each month to help cover any additional costs while working from home.
